Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Chautari Hub
General
What is Chautari Hub?
Chautari Hub is a platform that brings together Nepali news, FM radio, patro (calendar), daily games, and other tools in one place. Think of it as your daily hub for everything Nepal — whether you're at home or abroad.
Is it free?
Yes, everything on Chautari Hub is free. News, radio, patro, games — no subscriptions, no paywalls. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core experience will always be free.
Do I need to create an account?
No, you can use everything without signing in. But if you create a free account, you can follow sources and topics, save articles, see personalized recommendations, track your reading history, and keep your game progress.
Are you affiliated with any news organization?
No. We're fully independent. We don't work for or represent any specific news outlet. Our goal is to present news from many sources so you can form your own opinions.
Is there an app?
Yes! Chautari Hub is available on both the App Store and Google Play. The app gives you the same experience with offline reading, push notifications for breaking news, and daily game reminders.
News
Where does the news come from?
We aggregate headlines and summaries from 50+ established Nepali and English news publishers. All content belongs to the original publisher — when you click an article, you go directly to their website.
How often is news updated?
Continuously. Our system checks sources every few minutes. Breaking news usually shows up within minutes of being published by the original outlet.
Can I read in both Nepali and English?
Yes. We have separate Nepali and English feeds. You can switch between them from the top navigation. Each feed pulls from sources that publish in that language.
How does the 'For You' page work?
When you're signed in, we look at the sources, topics, and categories you follow, your reading history, and your location (province) to rank articles that are most relevant to you. The more you use it, the better it gets.
What is the Audio Digest?
It's a daily AI-narrated news summary available in both Nepali and English — about 5 minutes long, covering the top stories of the day. Think of it like a quick podcast briefing. A new one is generated every morning for each language.
How do trending topics work?
We use entity recognition to extract people, places, and organizations from articles, then track which ones are mentioned most frequently over the last 24 hours. That's how we surface what's trending.
Can I hide articles I'm not interested in?
Yes. On the For You page and news feeds, you'll see a hide (X) button on each article card. Hidden articles won't show up again in your feeds.
How do I report a problem with an article?
You can use the 'Report a Bug' link in the footer, or email us at [email protected]. Let us know the article title or URL and what the issue is.
Radio
How many radio stations are available?
We have a growing collection of Nepali FM stations from all provinces, and we're continuously adding more. You can browse by province, search by name, or check out the 24/7 stations that stream around the clock.
Can I listen to radio outside Nepal?
Yes, most stations stream online so you can listen from anywhere in the world. A few stations may have geo-restrictions set by the broadcaster, but most work internationally.
Can I save favorite stations?
Yes, sign in and tap the heart icon on any station. Your favorites appear in a dedicated tab on the radio page for quick access.
What if a station isn't working?
Streams occasionally go down on the broadcaster's end. Try refreshing or come back later. You can also use the 'Report' button on the station page to let us know, and we'll investigate.
Can I request a station to be added?
Yes! There's a 'Request Station' button on the radio page. Fill out the form and we'll review it. We add new stations regularly.
Patro (Calendar)
How does the Nepali calendar work?
We display the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar with accurate AD/BS date mapping. You can toggle between BS and AD views. The calendar shows festivals, holidays, tithis, and other events for each day.
How are festival dates calculated?
Fixed-date festivals (like Nepali New Year on Baisakh 1) come directly from the BS calendar. Tithi-based festivals (like Dashain, Tihar, Ekadashi) are calculated using astronomical computations with the Swiss Ephemeris library, based on the moon's position relative to the sun. We cross-reference with official government holiday lists.
Are the panchang details accurate?
We compute tithi, nakshatra, and yoga using geocentric calculations based on your selected location. By default it uses Kathmandu, but you can change the location and the panchang will adjust accordingly. These are astronomically computed values — your local pandit may have slightly different results based on different almanac traditions.
Do you show festivals for Nepali abroad?
Yes. We flag festivals as Nepal-only or global. Religious and cultural events like Dashain, Tihar, Holi, and Chhath are visible everywhere. Government-specific holidays (like local jatras or official off-days) are marked as Nepal-only.
Can I search for a specific festival?
Yes. There's a search bar in the calendar that searches across the entire year. It also handles common aliases — so searching 'Dashain' will find 'Vijaya Dashami', searching 'Diwali' will find 'Laxmi Puja', and so on.
Does the calendar remember my settings?
Yes. Your selected month, view mode (month/day/year/events), and BS/AD toggle are saved in your browser session. They persist across page refreshes but reset when you close the browser.
Games
What games are available?
We currently have four games: Sudoku (number puzzle), Shabda (Nepali word guessing, like Wordle), Bagchal (traditional Tigers & Goats), and Crossword (word puzzle). New games are added periodically.
Are games available on the web?
Sudoku and Crossword are playable on the web. Shabda (word game) and Bagchal are currently app-only. We're working on bringing all games to the web.
Is my game progress saved?
If you're signed in, yes. Your stats, streaks, and progress sync across devices. Without an account, progress is saved locally in your browser.
Tools (Forex, Gold, Fuel)
Where do the forex rates come from?
All exchange rates are sourced from Nepal Rastra Bank's daily published rates. These are reference rates — actual rates at banks and money transfer services may vary slightly.
How often are gold/silver prices updated?
Gold and silver prices are updated daily based on rates published by the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association (FENEGOSIDA).
Are fuel prices accurate?
Fuel prices reflect the latest rates published by Nepal Oil Corporation. They're updated whenever NOC announces a price change.
